Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is a cloud-based photo service that is best known as just Lightroom. Lightroom is an app developed by Adobe Systems, the same folks who brought us Photoshop and countless other software that many of us use on a daily basis. Lightroom comes on Windows and Mac operating systems, Android, iOS, and even AppleTV.
For this article we will be focusing on the mobile application of Lightroom. You may be asking what exactly is Lightroom used for? Well, let me answer that for you. Lightroom is a powerful app that lets users capture, edit, and share photos. The app itself allows for importing and saving along with viewing, organizing, tagging, and sharing images in mass quantity.
This app shares the Photoshop name, but does not offer the amount of photo editing capability that comes with Photoshop itself. However, Lightroom does allow for editing by saving the original image, while keeping the edited photo saved separately.
Available Versions
Lightroom has two different versions: A standard version that is available for free and the paid version that is purchased via a Creative Cloud Photography subscription. With the paid version of Lightroom, you get the ability to edit raw files and access to the Selective edits tool. Along with this you get the ability to sync Lightroom with photos across all of your devices – including your desktop or laptop.
With this subscription you will also gain access to Adobe Portfolio, a software/website to showcase your photos. One of the best advantages of this subscription is the ability to have your photos in Lightroom also be used in other Adobe mobile apps including Photoshop Mix, Photoshop Fix, Adobe Spark Page and many more.
With the free version you still have access to capture, organizing, and sharing features along with most of the editing features. If you choose to go with the paid subscription, but decide to cancel, you will still have complete ownership of your photos. The only catch to cancelling your subscription is that you will no longer be able to edit or sync your photos across all of your devices.
